Children's Eye Care
As a rule, babies, toddlers, schoolchildren and students under 19 should be examined THE NORVILLE COLLECTION every 12 months.  Regular eye examinations are essential to ensure that their eyes are equipped to receive visual information accurately, comfortably and safely.

The co-ordination and focusing of the eyes are vital to a child's ability to read, concentrate and understand. Many learning problems can be associated even with minor eye defects. Computers in education and leisure pursuits place a heavy burden on the visual system so we have developed Junior Vutest to identify children who may have problems using computer screens.

Where sight tests show instability or that a child has a learning difficulty, a special assessment is needed selected from the following.

  • Dyslexia investigation

  • Eye movement and co-ordination analysis using an infra-red Eye-Trac® recorder

  • Colour vision tasks

  • Colour filter and overlay evaluation

  • Colorimetry - a specialised assessment of customised spectacle tinting using a spectral analyser  - is now available where applicable.

  • 'Junior Vutest' screening. A software driven system developed by the practice to identify those children who would have problems using computer screens. This also analyses all important aspects of near vision.

  • A cycloplegic examination may sometimes have to be used which fully relaxes and controls focusing to reveal hidden sight defects. Eye drops are used and vision may remain blurred for two to three hours during which time close work will be difficult and should be avoided.

After the special assessment, we will review and recommend treatment as regards eye correction and any other educational or vision training.

Vision Training strengthens the eye muscles and we supply a computerised system which is used at home.  This Home Therapy System (HTS) is highly recommended and used extensively in the USA.
