Sheinman Opticians was established in 1915 by A E Turville OBE, one of the founders of modern optometry and under the guidance of J S Sheinman since 1964, we have become one of Europe’s largest and most respected optometric practices and a pioneering clinical research centre.
This has led to the development of techniques and instrumentation to improve sight testing and investigation of the eyes, vision correction and health assessment. As a research ophthalmic and optometric practice our aim is to continually explore new and more advanced ways of bringing our patients the best in eye-care and eyewear.
Sheinman was the first practice in the UK to install the EyeMap the scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO) which produces a wide-field image of the interior of the eye.
We manufacture on the premises and can offer a fast prescription service and respond instantly in emergencies. Having our own laboratory (established in 1922) ensures that we can achieve a completely accurate result.
Sheinman is also a specialist Contact Lens Centre. We have established large banks of soft and gas-permeable lenses and in most cases we can fit and supply the lenses on the same day. Disposable, frequent replacement and mail order contact lenses are available.
