My surprise at the Tour de France
It started out as an innocent comment but I never imagined I would be walking the streets of Paris two days later. I had never been but had always wanted to go. For me it was one of those things you did with your lover not a professional cycling team.
I had heard of the Tour de France as most people have but knew absolutely nothing about cycling, so when out of the blue my friend asked me to come along to host VIP's for a test team it was surreal. I was only required to find my own way to Paris and the rest was covered. As it was only an hour by plane I decided there was no way I could pass up the opportunity. So I searched the Internet for a last minute flight and next thing I knew I was on the plane.
There was excitement in the air as I arrived in Paris. It was very apparent that something big was happening. We were approached recently by a long standing customer who is one of the lucky few people chosen to become a living work of art on Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth. Lynne Scotten has been coming to Sheinman for over twenty years, she's mad about motorbikes and wants to use her hour on the plinth to reflect this; we were only too happy to help her out by supplying a pair of Oakley sunglasses to top off her biker chic!! "One and Other" is the brain child of Antony Gormley, the famous artist responsible for work such as the Angel of the North and Another Place. This project puts a different member of the public on the plinth every hour, 24 hours a day for 100 days. There are no criteria to satisy to become a plinther, anyone can enter the draw and be selected to take their place in history!! Find out more here.
Sheinman Team enter Dragon Boat Festival 2009
Eye Eye Cap'n take to the water again!
We had a great time competing in the Dragon Boat festival on Sunday 12th July, raising money for the Northants/Warwicks Air Ambulance and Cynthia Specer Hospice in Northampton. It had been a few years since we'd taken part, the last time had been under very wet and cold weather, thankfully it was a beautiful day by the river this year.
There were 11 of us in the boat, 10 rowers and one very brave drummer! We had three heats, all of our races were really closely fought and in our second race we posted one of the fastest times of the day. We narrowly missed out on getting through to the semi-finals by 2 seconds which was disappointing, but made a little easier by the fact that the team that beat us in Heat 3 went on the win the final! It was jolly hard work in the races but we all had a great day and knowing that we were raising money for such fantastic causes made it all the more worthwhile. We had a brilliant support team as well, thanks to Val and Jane for all their hard work on the banks and to all the friends and family who turned out to cheer us on!!
